Last September we announced that dredger giant Boskalis had placed their trust in MTG to equip their mega cutter Helios with cutterheads designed and manufactured by us in their entirety.
After more than 6 months in operation, first in Rotterdam and then Oman, Boskalis featured an interview in its January bulletin with Marcel van Wijk and André Klop, respectively Helios’ Senior Project Engineer and Project Manager. They both emphasized the positive results obtained on the ground with this dredger, one of the world’s most powerful.
Helios is currently the largest, most powerful dredger ever developed by the Dutch company. It is 152 metres in length and 28 wide, and it is capable of dredging at depths of between 6 and 35 metres in extremely hard terrain. Boasting a total pumping capacity of 15,600 kW and a maximum cutter power of 7,000 kW, the Helios cutter’s ladder weighs 2,060 tonnes, which makes it the world’s heaviest.
